Our afternoon in Chincoteague Island, VA.

The day before it was 91 in Williamsburg. The high in Chincoteague on this afternoon was 62.

Just 150 miles apart and one day’s difference.

We may not have packed enough heavy clothes. 😳

We did get to see some of the wild ponies that roam all of Assateague Island.

But, I’m telling you, it was unexpectedly chilly. 😁 We made the best of it when exploring the park and bundled up for a stroll down the beach. The scenery is absolutely lovely and for horse lovers like us, it’s pretty incredible to see these beautiful horses all over. The Assateague Lighthouse was also an incredible sight. Whenever we have a chance to visit a lighthouse, we try to see them and this one was quite a beauty. It was even more lovely at night as we could see the light spinning in the sky from our campsite just across the way.

We headed in town for dinner at the Ropewalk and then made an unscheduled stop at Mr. Whippy’s because Jeff saw donut drive thru and we just couldn‘t help ourselves. A dozen donuts later, we headed back to the beach along with some hot tea and hot coffee to picnic with our donut desserts. Don’t worry, we didn’t eat them all in one sitting! Mr. Whippy’s sure does know how to make a tasty donut, that is for sure!

And, we’re back on the road again! West Virginia is now on the map! Now to read up on our next conquest. 😁 Williamsburg, we have you in our sights!

After a pretty crazy spring with tea room events and some music gigs, it’s time for a little spring vacation. We are on our first vacation camping trip of the season and on our way to Delaware to explore. Neither of us has ever really explored Delaware and we are excited together visit with some stops along the way visiting old favorites from previous trips through West Virginia and Virginia.

We stayed in Huntington, WV the first night out and on Friday we explored Staunton, VA...birthplace of President Woodrow Wilson and home of The Statler Brothers. This was a great stopover on our way to Williamsburg.

My parents took me to Williamsburg multiple times as a kid and I’ve always loved visiting. Jeff had been previously for a conference but we had never explored Williamsburg together so this was quite a treat. We also took one of the ghost tours! On Sunday we explored Jamestown and Yorktown. We absolutely loved the ships and wandering about the settlement at Jamestown and were treated to a Revolutionary War artillery demonstration at Yorktown.

Next we are on to Chincoteague Island to see the beautiful wild horses.

This is “Sarge”. He is a volunteer at the Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes. Sarge saw us pull up in our Lucy camper and immediately came to find us...or to find Carrie, actually. He is an Army veteran and at 80 he has a great many stories that he loves to tell. He fell in love with Carrie and I thought he might try keep her. 😂 He was totally enamored with her and I almost felt guilty having to take Carrie away from him. He loved the attention that she gave him and he looked almost heartbroken when the curator told him he needed to go assist others in the museum.

People, please don’t dismiss the elderly. They were young once too. Sometimes they just want to feel appreciated and know that someone is interested in what they have to say.

We spent probably an hour with Sarge as he followed us around telling about the displays and trying to think of every excuse to stay close to Carrie - until he was told to “stand down” by curator. 😁

We told Sarge we would be back to visit him soon. I asked if I could get a photo with him and Carrie. I’m going to mail a print of it to him at the museum. 😉
