Our Saturday in Erie, PA!

After starting the day with fresh cinnamon mini-donuts, we made the trek from north of Columbus, OH up to Erie. ☺️

Erie is a great coastal city! We explored a bit and journeyed to the three lighthouses around the city, Presque Isle, Land Light and North Pier Light. The Land Light is the oldest lighthouse on any of the Great Lakes. Presque Isle Lighthouse was in beautiful Presque Isle State Park, which explored a bit as well! Presque Isle is known as the Jewel of Lake Erie. 😁 We finished the day with a sunset dinner that Jeff made on his new portable Blackstone - tuna patties and fried zucchini.

And we’re off!!

We had a little set-back today, but holy smoke it could have been so much worse! We stopped at a Rest Stop in KY near Buckner and Jeff was doing a walk-around before we pulled out and noticed a huge gash on one of the trailer tires! The threads were showing and a huge bump was starting to form on the tire tread. If he hadn’t caught it we would have have a blowout for sure! 🙏

Jeff put the spare on and we then drove a couple of miles to get a new tire for the spare. While he was getting the tire replaced, I walked down to a shaved ice stand and got THE best shaved ice I have ever had! Tonight we are in Mt Gilead, OH for the night and heading up to Erie, PA tomorrow as we continue our journey to Niagara Falls and then on to the Finger Lakes region of NY!

Firefly Festival in New Harmony, Indiana

Well, we found another Indiana festival to add to our calendar each year - the Firefly Festival in New Harmony!

Everything about this just felt so like summers of my childhood, and New Harmony is one the most delightful small towns in the Hoosier state!

You observe (not catch them) millions of fireflies in their mating ritual just after sundown. It is just so magical and fairy like! We didn’t want to leave.

Mark you calendars for this festival next summer and plan a trip to New Harmony. Experience the magic of nature's fireworks in New Harmony during their Firefly Festival, sponsored by New Harmony Business Associates. It's free, family-friendly fun that blends science and nature with all kinds of activities!

This is a two day event and in the past it has included activities like firefly storytelling, a presentation on photographing fireflies, a Thomas Say reenactor (Say's Firefly is Indiana's state insect), a guided walk to see the trees filled with fireflies, a nature expert's search for firefly larva, firefly facts, chalk art creation, pub crawl with firefly-themed beverages, and trips on our golf carts at dusk to the best spots from which to view the spectacle of hundreds of thousands of fireflies blinking as they strive to find a mate.
