The 2021 Kentucky Oaks is in the books!

What a glorious day it was!

I have been counting down the days for this first weekend in May since last year when they cancelled everything. It exceeded my expectations in so many ways. While it didn’t feel like old times (before COVID), it did feel so much more normal that anything we have done in the last 18 months. It was energizing!

Here are some pics from the track - historic Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY! I put together my outfit (inspired by everyone’s favorite redhead when she was in the Follies) and made my hat!

AND NOW...time to get ready for THE day - The Kentucky Derby 147!!

give you a clue as to what my inspiration was for this year’s Oaks. ❤️)

A visit to Falls of the Ohio State Park is always pleasurable, but at sunset it is magical.

For those not familiar, it is located on the banks of the Ohio River at Clarksville, Indiana, across the River from Louisville, Kentucky. The park is part of the Falls of the Ohio National Wildlife Conservation Area. The exposed fossil beds date from the Devonian period and are a main feature of the park. For those who enjoy history, the Falls was the site where Lewis & Clark met for the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

It is one of my favorites simply because it is so unlike any other Hoosier state park. And, it is the perfect place to explore, geologically, which has been a fascination of mine since I was very young.

Woo hoo! We officially kicked off our Derby season last night at the Kentucky Railway Museum in New Haven, KY!

So much fun! It was a last minute decision and we were fortunate they still had two tickets available. It was Derby hats, wine and a train ride, so we couldn’t pass that up. 😁

If you’re ever in central Kentucky looking for an activity, we would certainly suggest the Kentucky Railway Museum. They have several fun events planned for the year, in addition to their regular weekend schedule of train excursions.

The ride lasts around an hour and a half, which is perfect in our opinion.
