My latest obsession…The Gilded Age on HBOMax!! Gahhhh!!!

I have always been a bit obsessed with the opulent lifestyle and mansions of the American titans of industry at the turn of the 20th Century. We visited the summer homes of the Rockefellers, Astors, Vanderbilts, Morgans and Carnegies a few years ago in Newport, RI.

We toured each home and were in awe of the wealth on display in these homes; each family trying to “one-up” the other with their lavish homes.

If you have never visited the mansions of Newport, I highly recommend it. Yes, the ridiculous amount of money spent on these homes is a bit bewildering, but in the early 1900s, it was a combination of high fashion and competition.

The HBOMax series is on Monday nights and the homes and fashion that are featured in the series just makes me a bit giddy. I could not be more excited for my Monday nights, now!

Thank you for joining us here at Our Technicolor Life!

This is the first newsletter of what will be a monthly feature highlighting upcoming events, updates, & general news of all channels in Our Technicolor Life.

We have a lot of new subscribers and we wanted to welcome everyone and thank you for following us! For those new to Our Technicolor Life, we are a husband and wife team that lives a vintage lifestyle and has a passion for the arts. That's how we met - in a theatre production! We entertain, sing, travel, create, and host tea parties out of our historic home. Follow along each channel - tea, travel, entertainment, art, lifestyle, & more that make up Our Technicolor Life!

It's been a productive January! We've been working on home renovations, lining up gigs both for Rosie & the Rockabillies as well as the Tin Pan Alley Cats, and getting a few dates on the books for our Lucy & Desi Tribute Show. And not going to lie, we've been watching a lot of basketball!

TEA

We have been working a lot on implementing new policies for the tea room in an effort to be more transparent and streamline a system for table sales to our public teas. Yes, table sales! That is a new update and we even have a seating chart! The tea room is in our historic downtown Corydon home and is not a restaurant. We host public tea events and private parties primarily on weekends. During the week, Jeff is a general manager at Kasgro Rail Co. and I am a freelance artist/illustrator so we work during the week and host tea parties when we have the weekends available.

For each tea event, public tea or private tea, we move furniture around and set up tables, chairs, and order food for the tea events. We are not open daily as there is quite a bit of preparation and planning that goes into each event.

For the first couple of events in the 2022 season we are going to try out our new set up of purchasing a table for the public tea events. In the past, we pretty much always set the tables up to maximize seating and work with the space available with our living room and dining room furniture. The tables are now labeled A-I and notes what each table seats. We can now use our best seating arrangement and let you see what tables are available as well as let you select your table.

Stay tuned for upcoming events for the 2022 tea room season, we will be announcing February through July this week. See individual events for more information about each public tea and to purchase your table.

ree

To purchase a table:

  1. Go to upcoming events - this can be found by scrolling our home page or clicking on upcoming events under the TEA tab.

  2. Select your table. (Ex. Table B - seats 5 $125)

  3. Add to cart.

  4. Check out!

We also have several private parties on the books. Those private party dates are under upcoming events but are closed to the public.

There also seems to be a bit of confusion about public teas vs. private party teas. Private parties are booked primarily for special occasions such as bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays, meetings, book club, etc. for a traditional tea party. Private parties are NOT themed like our public tea events. We have themed packages if you would like to theme a private party for additional fees.

-Private Party Update:.

1) Starting in February, we will be adding a $50 booking fee for private parties to be paid once the date and time of your party has been decided.

There is a whole private party tab under TEA with even more information, photos, & videos.

TRAVEL

We have yet to take The Not So Long Trailer out of winter hibernation but we have several trips planned this year including a trip down south to Florida, upstate New York, and then out west in the Fall. Meanwhile we've been exploring some of our favorite nearby cities! Check out our fun weekend in Cincinnati!

We shopped some of our favorite vintage stores, spent a dreamy amount of time at Jungle Jim's - the incredible international grocery, grabbed cocktails at cozy Blind Lemon, and rounded out our weekend with a stop at a 1950s diner for breakfast!

ENTERTAINMENT

If you scroll down our Upcoming Events, you can see we have several gigs already on the books for Rosie & the Rockabillies! Each event has further details so be sure to check those out! We have a few more in the works so check back to see new additions.

We are also booked for several private events featuring our 1920s-1940s band, Tin Pan Alley Cats. We are also super excited to announce we are now the featured band at The Limbo the last Wednesday of every month. Cast away your troubles at The Limbo, with live entertainment programming, dreamy tropical cocktails, in a colorful quirky setting. The Limbo is a vintage lovers dream! Located at 411 West Chestnut Street in downtown Louisville we love playing there, trying out all the fun cocktails, and the owner Olivia is one cool chic that we love working with! We'll be at The Limbo starting Wednesday February 23rd.

Our Lucy & Desi Tribute Show is all set to be back in Granville, TN for the annual Lucy Day! We'll be performing our show on the main stage for two performances Saturday April 9th. If you can't make it to Granville, we are working with the lovely folks of Sallie's Small Batch Ice Creams in Madison, IN. to perform sometime this summer. We'll create an event for this performance once a date has been decided. Stay tuned!

ART

I've taught drawing and painting classes for kids and adults for many years. The last two years I was fortunate enough to continue teaching virtually be creating content for the Arts Alliance of Southern Indiana. You can still go to sointoart.org and enjoy many art lessons, craft tutorials, and even some sing-alongs & story times! Starting this month I will be the new paint teacher at the Masonic Homes Kentucky in Louisville! Jeff and I have performed at the Masonic Homes Kentucky many times over the years and I am incredibly grateful to be the new paint instructor for the wonderful residents.

I also picked up an exciting new mural project down the road from Corydon in Salem, IN. Did you know there is going to be a new bourbon lounge on Public Square in Salem?!? I don't have all the details for the new business in terms of opening & operation but I know they are going to have a fabulous new mural on their main wall. The owners have a great concept and I'm so ready to get started on this painting project.

LIFESTYLE

We get a lot of questions and comments about our vintage lifestyle so we though this might be a fun section to highlight different features whether it be clothes, vintage shops, unique finds, travel tips, and more general vintage lifestyle fun!

Highlight of the month: We love vintage shopping in Cincinnati and on one of our visits to Talk of the Town in Reading, the owner sent us home with a couple of copies of a magazine called Reminisce. I tore through them!

Reminisce is North America's top-selling nostalgia magazine that celebrates the good times with fun, engaging stories about what we loved in the past and how it shapes our lives today. Seriously my favorite magazine and I read it cover to cover the day it comes in the mail. You can subscribe and get a Reminisce delivered right to your door! Check out reminisce.com to subscribe.

I Love Lucy Tea Party

A late brunch, a little “fleaing”, and a brisk walk around the reservoir.

Then, home to watch the Bengals win the AFC.

Good Sunday.

We started with brunch at The Cafe in their new space! It’s so cool to see how Paristown has transformed into this hip hangout and it makes me very excited for warmer days to grab The Cafe to go and have my feast outside. It’s also a great shopping area with a connector to one of my favorite local spots, Louisville Stoneware. I have several of the Churchill Down pieces! ❤️

And…since we were in the area, we had to Flea at Fleur de Flea just around the corner. I’m in the process of doing my January clean so I was being super picky about what I was looking for. I’ve got my eye out for a hurricane floor lamp.

Being the first warm sunny days we’ve had in a while, we made a brief stop to the reservoir off Frankfort Ave. We ended up meeting a sweet couple visiting from out of town and they asked if we had just gotten married. 🤣 #theclothes

That’s a new one! Usually it’s, “are you guys in a show or something?” Nope! We just like to get gussied up and head out for little adventures. We chatted for a bit and they graciously snapped a photo of us! ❤️

It’s been a pretty basketball only household around here this month but we did catch the end of that Bengals game! How about that?!? Congrats to the Bengals and now I am looking forward to Suoer Bowl!

Not too shabby for a Sunday funday!
