Day 3 - EC/NE Camping Adventure 2022 -

Our Sunday was pretty much a day of mostly driving and dodging rain. We set up camp

In Hammonasset State Park near Clinton, CT.

It’s a great ocean front park! After set-up, we made a short drive up to Saybrook, CT - home of Katharine Hepburn! Her former home is actually located in the coastal village of Fenwick. It’s a very nice home on the Long Island Sound. It sold for $11.5 M in 2017. 😁 Kate is a favorite of our’s!

We walked around Old Saybrook and had to grab a fro-yo at Sweet Luna’s!! Wow!! Good stuff!! SO many topping choices!

Our Monday will take us on a ferry across the sound and over to Long Island, NY! It will be our first time on the island and we’re looking forward to exploring this 100 mile strip of land!

Day 2 (Part 2) - Our Saturday evening in Sleepy Hollow was SO fun! We just happened to be passing thru this little New York village on the same night as the full Harvest Moon! How cool is that?!

Knowing that we would be visiting Sleepy Hollow, I brought the perfect dress just for the occasion. ❤️

We just happened to luck out and saw that the Sleepy Hollow cemetery was offering a lamplight cemetery tour in the evening!! Sign us up!

Our guide, John, was great! He is a member of the cemetery appreciation society. Having grown up in Sleepy Hollow, he was amazingly knowledgeable about the many gravesites, stones and mausoleums on the property.

Day 2 - Part of our Saturday was spent in the home of John D Rockefeller, near Sleepy Hollow, NY.

The family called and asked if we could possible drop by since we were in the area, so we had to oblige them. 🤣

Actually, any mansion tour is always a welcomed diversion on any camping trip. 😁❤️

Kykuit (Dutch for “lookout”), overlooks the town of Sleepy Hollow and the Hudson River. It was completed in 1913 for John D. Rockefeller, founder of the Standard Oil Company. It became the home of his son, philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr., and grandson, Nelson A. Rockefeller, four-time governor of New York and vice president under Gerald Ford. First-floor living spaces were designed by Ogden Codman Jr., then America’s leading interior decorator. They contain excellent examples of 18th century-style furniture, as well as Asian ceramics. An underground art gallery holds works from the collection of Nelson Rockefeller, including pieces by Andy Warhol and Alexander Calder. The design of the surrounding grounds and gardens were overseen by Frederick Olmstead.
