Welcome to Our Technicolor Life Monthly Newsletter!

Welcome back to another exciting edition of Our Technicolor Life's monthly newsletter! We're thrilled to have you join us on our colorful journey through the many facets of our adventurous lives. As always, we're Jeff and Carrie Ketterman, a dynamic husband and wife duo who are passionate about embracing a vintage lifestyle in the most vibrant way possible.

A Glimpse into Our Lives

In case you're new here, let us introduce ourselves once again. Jeff spends his days immersed in the bustling world of rail transportation as the General Manager at Kasgro Rail Corporation Management Division. With a fleet of over 500 heavy-duty railcars, Jeff is at the forefront of providing innovative solutions for the ever-evolving rail industry.

Meanwhile, Carrie's days are filled with creativity and artistic expression. As a painter, illustrator, and author, she breathes life into murals and paintings that tell stories with every brushstroke.

Adventures Await

After our workday concludes, the real excitement begins! Our historic home, known as The Old Capitol Tea Room, transforms into a hub of themed tea parties that transport us and our guests to different eras and worlds. From the glitz and glamour of the 1920s to the groovy vibes of the 1960s, we've hosted an array of captivating events this past month that ignite the senses and spark joy.

Speaking of our musical passions, our bands are another cornerstone of Our Technicolor Life. Rosie & the Rockabillies, a vivacious 1950s-style band, and The Tin Pan Alley Cats, a toe-tapping 1920s-style ensemble, allow us to spread our love for music and nostalgia far and wide.

TEA

September whisked us away on a delightful journey at The Old Capitol Tea Room, our charming historic home in Downtown Corydon. From Civil War melodies to ‘70s disco beats, let’s take a sip of the eclectic experiences we brewed this month.

Gone With the Wind Tea Party Extravaganza:

Rhett and Scarlett took center stage, guiding us through a splendid Gone With the Wind Tea party. Trivia floated through the air, and the soulful medley of Civil War songs added a touch of nostalgia.

Roaring 20s Outdoor Tea Concert:

Our tea garden witnessed its maiden event with a Roaring 20s Tea Concert, featuring live music by the Tin Pan Alley Cats. The evening was graced with divine looks and perfect weather, setting the stage for an unforgettable outdoor affair.

Lucy and Desi Tribute Show Laughter:

Laughter echoed through the halls as we brought back a fan favorite—the Lucy and Desi Tribute Show. Live skits, songs, and a delightful trip down the I Love Lucy memory lane left everyone in stitches.

The Music That Helped Win the War - A 1940s Journey:

Our 1940s Tribute Show, “The Music That Helped Win the War,” transported us through time with 24 vintage costumes and hits from the era. A riveting journey through WWII history, complete with authentic audio and video footage, made this performance an absolute gem.

DiscoTEAque 1970s Groove:

Shifting gears, we grooved into the ’70s with our DiscoTEAque. The unanimous agreement among patrons? The music of the ’70s brought unparalleled happiness, and our tea-filled soirée was no exception.

Halloween Murder Mystery Unveiling:

October tiptoed in with a touch of suspense. In 1936, Gwendolyn Rogers hosted a seance to contact her great cousin, Harry Houdini. But, as expected, all was not as it seemed. Our Halloween Murder Mystery set the stage for the spooky season, combining intrigue and tea in a perfect blend.

As we sip through seasons and eras, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for being a part of the tea tales at The Old Capitol. Here’s to more memories steeped in history, melody, and mystery.

TRAVEL

Our September Travel Adventures

In between the delightful tea parties and enchanting shows at The Old Capitol Tea Room, we managed to carve out some time for a bit of travel escapade. Here’s a glimpse into the exciting places we explored in September:

Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati:

A dream came true as we finally set foot in the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. Baseball fanatics at heart, we savored an evening of good friends and cheers while watching the Cubs take on the Reds. The bonus? Cincinnati clinched the victory! But the adventure didn’t stop there; we also explored some of our favorite vintage shops—Talk of the Town and Flamingo Haven—adding a dash of retro charm to our Cincinnati experience.

Huber’s Fall Wine Tasting:

Craving a taste of fall without the bustling crowds, Julie and I embarked on a delightful wine-tasting excursion at Huber’s. Sampling seven wines of our choice and taking home a souvenir wine glass made for a perfect Friday afternoon. The experience was rounded off with a leisurely glass on the patio, soaking in the autumn vibes.

Countryside Retreat to Brown County:

A day of indulgence led us on a scenic drive through the countryside to Brown County. Shopping, wine tasting at Brown County Winery, and a delectable meal at the Birds Nest Cafe filled our day with charm. And the cherry on top? Securing reservations for the enchanting Victorian candlelight Christmas dinner at Story Inn.

Chautauqua Art Festival in Madison, IN:

Madison, Indiana, became our destination for the annual Chautauqua Art Festival. Nestled along the river, the charming Downtown set the perfect stage for exploring the booths of incredibly talented artists. To cap off our festival day, we took a scenic drive to Mitchell, IN, for the Persimmon Festival—an anticipated treat for persimmon enthusiasts like us. The highlight? Sampling indulgent persimmon ice cream.

ENTERTAINMENT

Our entertainment section was alive and kicking, thanks to the many performances by Rosie & the Rockabillies and the Tin Pan Alley Cats in September.

First Friday Concery in Downtown Corydon:

Kicking off the month with a bang, Rosie & the Rockabillies took the stage at Bicentennial Park for the last First Friday in Downtown Corydon. The lively tunes echoed through the historic streets, setting the perfect tone for a night of fun, laughter, and good ol’ rockabilly vibes.

Grand Ole Country Music Show in West Point, KY:

Our musical journey continued across state lines as Rosie & the Rockabillies made their mark at the Grand Ole Country Music Show in West Point, Kentucky. The stage was set, the crowd was buzzing, and the energy was infectious—a night filled with country charm and toe-tapping tunes.

Enchanted Forest in New Albany, IN:

The enchantment spread to New Albany as Rosie & the Rockabillies enchanted the audience at the Enchanted Forest. Under the starlit sky, the band brought a magical touch to the night, creating memories that lingered like a sweet melody.

Tin Pan Alley Cats at the Overlook Restaurant:

Meanwhile, the Tin Pan Alley Cats serenaded the night at the Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth, Indiana. The notes danced in the air as the Tin Pan Alley Cats delivered a wonderful evening of live music, complementing the picturesque backdrop of the Overlook.

Keep Your Ears Peeled:

But wait, there’s more! Be on the lookout for upcoming gigs featuring Rosie & the Rockabillies and the Tin Pan Alley Cats. Whether you’re a fan of rockabilly rhythms or the smooth tunes of Tin Pan Alley, we’ve got more musical magic coming your way.

September may be over, but the echoes of Rosie & the Rockabillies and the Tin Pan Alley Cats linger. Stay tuned for the next chapter in our musical journey

Rock on!
