Welcome back to another exciting edition of Our Technicolor Life's monthly newsletter! We're thrilled to have you join us on our colorful journey through the many facets of our adventurous lives. As always, we're Jeff and Carrie Ketterman, a dynamic husband and wife duo who are passionate about embracing a vintage lifestyle in the most vibrant way possible.

A Glimpse into Our Lives

In case you're new here, let us introduce ourselves once again. Jeff spends his days immersed in the bustling world of rail transportation as the General Manager at Kasgro Rail Corporation Management Division. With a fleet of over 500 heavy-duty railcars, Jeff is at the forefront of providing innovative solutions for the ever-evolving rail industry.

Meanwhile, Carrie's days are filled with creativity and artistic expression. As a painter, illustrator, and author, she breathes life into murals and paintings that tell stories with every brushstroke.

Adventures Await

After our workday concludes, the real excitement begins! Our historic home, known as The Old Capitol Tea Room, transforms into a hub of themed tea parties that transport us and our guests to different eras and worlds. From the glitz and glamour of the 1920s to the groovy vibes of the 1960s, we've hosted an array of captivating events this past month that ignite the senses and spark joy.

Speaking of our musical passions, our bands are another cornerstone of Our Technicolor Life. Rosie & the Rockabillies, a vivacious 1950s-style band, and The Tin Pan Alley Cats, a toe-tapping 1920s-style ensemble, allow us to spread our love for music and nostalgia far and wide.

TEA

Tea Adventures in August

Under our beloved TEA channel, August was nothing short of a whirlwind! Our tea parties were in full swing, creating unforgettable memories for all who attended. We kicked off the month with a SpaceOddiTEA-themed tea party that had everyone jamming to the delightful tunes of The Tin Pan Alley Cats. A Summer of Love tea party followed, complete with iconic figures like Sonny & Cher, Janis Joplin, and John Lennon making surprise appearances to pay homage to the 1960s' greatest hits.

Of course, we couldn't resist paying tribute to the King himself. Two Elvis-themed tea parties brought the spirit of rock 'n' roll to The Old Capitol Tea Room not to mention the cutest little Elvis ever. And who could forget the two Barbie parties, where C'mon Barbie Let's Go ParTEA became the rallying cry for a fun and fabulous time? Not gonna lie, I'm really excited to have my very own Barbie box at home now. Jeff did an incredible job with building it.

As the month drew to a close, we unveiled the eagerly anticipated Murder at the Capitol Club, a 1920s-themed mystery that had everyone on the edge of their seats. We were thrilled to welcome guests from as far as Nashville, TN, who joined us in solving the captivating puzzle. We met these lovely ladies a few years ago when performing our Lucy & Desi Tribute Show in Granville, TN. for the annual Mayberry Lucy Festival and they made the road trip all the way to Corydon for the mystery and looked absolutely fabulous doing so!

TRAVEL

Travel Adventures: A Summer of Picnics and Fair Delights

Our Travel channel has been a treasure trove of unforgettable experiences. This summer, we carved out a few precious days to bask in the simple pleasures of life, embarking on delightful escapades that filled our hearts with joy.

One of the highlights was the St. Joe's Picnic, an August tradition that holds a special place in our hearts. This event, held in Louisville, serves as a fundraiser for St. Joe's Orphanage. As we strolled through the bustling event, it felt like stepping into a scene from the classic movie "Pollyanna." And to add to the magic, this year brought an unexpected surprise – I won a charming Kewpie doll at one of the game booths, making it a memory to cherish.

But that was just the beginning of our summer odyssey. Our next stop was the Indiana State Fair, a place that had been on our radar for quite some time. For me, it was a maiden voyage, while Jeff's memories from previous years only fueled his excitement. Little did we know that this fair would spoil us for all future state fairs!

Set against the bustling backdrop of Indianapolis, the Indiana State Fair unfolded as a day of pure delight. We immersed ourselves in the kaleidoscope of flavors, indulging in all the fair treats that make these events truly iconic. I particularly loved the giant bubble tower, the aninl farm complete With mini horses and mini donkeys, feeding the Billy goats, the incredibly basketball exhibit, the Chuck Taylor in a huge box car display. We hopped on rides, with the double-decker carousel stealing my heart and giving us a new definition of joy. I think I rode 3 different carousels multiple times along the midway so I was a very happy camper.

Exploring the myriad exhibits, we found ourselves captivated by the displays that showcased the heart and soul of Indiana. The midway beckoned, tempting us to try our luck at various games that brought out our competitive spirits. We both agreed to set up the bottle and fishing line game in the backyard so we can be practicing all year before we head back next year. It looks so simple and yet defeated us every time! And as the sun began to set, we were treated to a musical spectacle – the Happy Together tour in concert featuring such acts as Little Anthony, Gary Puckett, and The Turtles.

However, the pinnacle of our day came when we encountered a piece of cinematic history. The team bus from the movie "Hoosiers" stood before us, and fate smiled upon us as we struck up a conversation with its owner. To our astonishment, we were invited to ride in the bus during the evening parade. Jeff even had the honor of occupying Gene Hackman's seat, an experience that truly made our Technicolor hearts swell with awe and gratitude.

As we reflect on these sun-soaked moments and unforgettable encounters, we're reminded once again of the magic that lies within each adventure.

ENTERTAINMENT

Entertainment Extravaganza: Music, Mystery, and More!

As we dive into the vibrant channel of entertainment within Our Technicolor Life, we're thrilled to share the electrifying moments that filled the air this August. Our band, Rosie & the Rockabillies, took center stage at Yew Dell Botanical Gardens for the enchanting Bourbon and Botanical series. The rhythm of the music merged seamlessly with the lush surroundings, creating an unforgettable evening of melodies and magic. If you've not experienced the magic of Yew Dell Gardens, treat yourself to a day of roaming the grounds and do not miss the charming fairy garden.

But that was just the beginning. Our journey continued as we headed to Odon, Indiana, for their Old Settlers Day Festival. The melodies of Rosie & the Rockabillies resonated through the festival, adding an extra layer of joy to the festivities. We met so many wonderful folks at this festival and I left with a lot of scrumptious cinnamon rolls!

The Tin Pan Alley Cats also made an appearance at Harrison Springs hosting a night of groovy 70s tunes for their Disco Night! Elton Jeff, Janis, and even Elvis made an appearance. We had a huge turnout and were so glad to have so many dancing and singing along to some great live music.
